MEET DR. COLEMAN
Dr. Coleman has been married to Julie DuBois Coleman for 27 years. They have three sons: Steven, Chris and John. Steven and Chris are employed locally . John attends Texas A&M. The family enjoys soccer, water sports, snow skiing, hunting and fishing.
Dr. Coleman is a native Beaumonter. He attended Beaumont High School. He graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Highest Honors). Dr. Coleman graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1983.
In 1994, Dr. Coleman earned his Fellow - Academy of General Dentistry. Only 7% of U.S. dentists have earned this honor.
Dr. Coleman has 27 years of experience in general dentistry. His dental practice provides preventive, restorative, cosmetic and implant services.
Dr. Coleman is a certified Invisalign provider.

In November 2008, Dr. Coleman traveled on a mission trip to Cote D'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Africa with 35 Methodists from Texas. This team represented the Nothing But Nets Campaign whose goal is to distribute malaria mosquito nets to endangered African countries. Dr. Coleman also assisted local medical teams by administering life-saving vaccinations to the children. The Bishop's office of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has asked Dr. Coleman to serve on the Cote D'Ivoire Partnership Committee which will focus on improving the Methodist's Hospital, Seminary and School System in Cote D'Ivoire.

The Coleman family is very involved with the Young Life ministry. Young Life is a non-denominational high school youth ministry. Alan and Julie have served on the Area Committee since 2004 and were blessed to be a host home for the Beaumont kids. Alan currently serves as Area Committee Chairman.
Alan took this photograph of the Beaumont area Young Life group at Young Life's Crooked Creek camp in Fraser, Colorado. Alan and Julie have attended four camps with our area youth. In 2007, they served as Adult Hosts at the Crooked Creek camp.
Alan and Julie are members of Wesley United Methodist Church. Alan attended the Golden Triangle Emmaus Men's Walk #125. |

For 11 years, Dr. Coleman has devoted his "spare" time to coaching his sons and their friends. During this time, he has coached 19 soccer teams and 11 baseball teams and impacted the lives of over 260 soccer players and 140 baseball players.
In his last year of coaching, Dr. Coleman's soccer team, Alliance F.C., finished in second place in the state championship.
Dr. Coleman has been a certified soccer referee for 11 years and officiated at the STYSA State Championships held in December 2009.

Dr. Coleman was first elected as the Ward 1 City Councilmember in June 2007. He was sworn in for his second term on May 12, 2009.
Dr. Coleman currently represents the City of Beaumont on the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission. In 2009, Dr. Coleman was nominated for the Frances K. Monk "Regional Leadership" Award. He is the City Council Liaison to the Historical Landmark Commission and Small Business Revolving Loan Fund Board.
Dr. Coleman encourages all citizens to be involved in the decision-making process of their City government by contacting Councilmembers or making public comment at City Council meetings.

Dr. Coleman has been a United Way volunteer since 1988. He has served on the United Way of Beaumont Board of Directors since 1990. In 2000, Dr. Coleman served as President of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Coleman served two terms as Campaign Chairman, raising over $5.3 million dollars for the 23 United Way agencies. The funds raised during his two campaigns allowed the United Way agencies to assist over 500,000 people in Beaumont and Southeast Texas. Dr. Coleman is the only local volunteer to have served two terms as Campaign Chairman.

Dr. Coleman served on the Lamar University Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1984-2005. During that time, he chaired numerous committees, including fundraiser events, scholarship awards and membership development. In 1989, Dr. Coleman was awarded an Alumni Service Award for his contributions to the Association.
Dr. Coleman has also served on several Lamar University selection and review committees, and was an adjunct professor on the Beaumont campus from 1983 - 1986. He currently serves on the LIT Dental Hygiene Advisory Board.

For 15 years, Dr. Coleman was an active member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. He chaired numerous committees during that time, including Imagination Station, Downtown Rotary Park, Casas for CASA and Camp Enterprise. He served six years on the Board of Directors.
In 1994, Dr. Coleman was named a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. |

Dr. Coleman served on the Tyrrell Historical Library Association's Board of Directors for four years. Of all his community service endeavors, the restoration of the Tyrrell Historical Library is his favorite.
In 1988, Dr. Coleman chaired the restoration kick-off committee, named Students to Restore the Tyrrell. Dr. Coleman organized a B.I.S.D. student campaign which raised money and public awareness for the restoration project. |
| In 2004, Dr. Coleman received the American Institute for Public Service's Jefferson Award. The Jefferson Award is presented to individuals to honor them for their achievements and contributions in public and community service. The American Institute for Public Service was formed in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy and former U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. In 2004, only 280 persons across the United States were honored with a Jefferson Award. |
